The challenge

How can the British Normandy Memorial increase visitor footfall and associated revenue?

Our solution

For the 80th anniversary of D-Day The Makers Of devised and executed an extensive PR and social campaign alongside Standing With Giants.

The 1,475 giants, made out of silhouetted metal, reflected the number of servicemen who died serving under British command on D-Day itself.

We devised 5 key milestones for the campaign maintaining high levels of PR engagement throughout the journey –

1. Build and creation of the giants
2. Journey to Normandy
3. Creation of installation – April 2024
4. First look of completed installation
5. 80th anniversary of D-Day – 6 June 2024

Our close relationship with BBC Breakfast facilitated an exclusive launch of the campaign, with widespread coverage across The Times and The Express.

An organic social campaign on the British Normandy Memorial channels ran in parallel to drive further engagement and increase the profile of Memorial on this significant anniversary.

Results

• We helped increase footfall to British Normandy Memorial over the D-Day period by 264% (160,000 visitors)
